Our History

  • Hobble Creek Baptist Church's History & Heritage

Hobble Creek Baptist Church was started from the ministry of Moab Baptist Church in Moab, Utah. Moab Baptist Church was started by Paul Chappell Sr. (Grandpa of West Coast Baptist College’s Paul Chappell). Pastor Cole Howe was the Pastor of Moab Baptist Church when Pastor Jory started HCBC. The first service was held on March 5, 2023 in the Meeting Room at the Holiday Inn Express in Springville. There’s not much to the history of HCBC yet because we just started, but we hope to impact history for eternity for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Springville's History

The town of Hobble Creek was incorporated in 1853 by Mormon pioneers. After much growth, the town was renamed “Springville” after “Fort Springville.” The name “Springville” comes from the many springs that flow through the area. Springville is also known as “Art City” and has the oldest museum of visual fine arts in the state. Today, Springville is a bedroom community for the Provo-Orem, and Salt Lake City metropolitan areas, and has reached a population of about 30,000 people as of 2022.

  • Utah's History

The Mormons, led at the time by Brigham Young, first settled in Utah in 1847. When they first came, there were Indians and trappers (mountain men) that lived in the area. In 1848 Utah became a U.S. territory and then in 1896 it was finally recognized as a U.S. state. The name “Utah” is said to have derived from “Ute tribe” which means “people of the mountains.” Today, Utah is known for its scenery, outdoor adventures, snow, Mormonism, conservativism, and its fast growth rate (it’s the fastest growing state).

  • Pastor's History

Jory Petitti started this church and is still the pastor. Pastor Jory was mentored by Pastor Cole Howe (who is currently pastoring at Moab Baptist Church), who was mentored by Pastor Harvey Seidel (who is retired in Thermopolis, Wyoming).

The First Service of Hobble Creek Baptist Church

March 5, 2023
2:00 PM at the Holiday Inn Express in Springville

This was the first service Hobble Creek Baptist Church ever had

There was a big snowstorm that day

Thankfully there was a break right before and during the service (our church service was from 2:00-3:00)

We set up 40 chairs which was all that room could allow

39 people showed up

30 were adults, the rest were teenage to toddler

The message was entitled “Full of Grace”

Pastor & Mrs. Petitti then sung “Were it not for Grace”

Afterwards we had fellowship with lots of coffee & donuts

From then till now the Lord has been so gracious to us
